The history of
Andaman Island ranges back to ages. Though the exact period of origin
of inhabitants in the island is not know, but the first present of
human inhabitants was noted in the 2nd century by the
Greek astronomer named Ptolemy. The second time the presence of
inhabitants in the island was reported by the Chinese monk named Xuan
Zang, during the phase when he was traveling in India for 17 years.
In the 17th
century, the island was invaded by the Marathas who has occupied a
vast region of India. In the 19th century the British
empire which occupied India used the island of Andaman as penal
colony for detaining regular criminals from India and later for
incarcerating the freedom fighters who fought for India's
independence. During the course of World war II, the Andaman island
was occupied by Japanese. In 1947, after India attained independence,
the island of Andaman was incorporated in the Indian union.
Andaman is the

Bengal. It is the splendid archipeloga of the Andaman island that
floats in the Bay of Bengal. It was also known as kalapani during the
period when British ruled India. This was the graveyard of martyrs
and hence was named kalapani. Now this isolated piece of land is one
of the best tourist destination of India. The atrocities of the
British regime has helped in sustaining the exiting aura of the
island which has given it the position of being one of the best
tourist destination in the global map.
During a period
the Andaman island was included in the hill range that extended from
Myanmar to Indonesia. At present the Andaman and Nicobar island
together constitute of group of 572 nearly deserted islands. The
majestic forest of the region and the beaming rays of the sun on the
exotic flora and fauna would take your breadth away. Animals like
spotted deer, wild boar, gecko, crab-eating macaque and pythons
reside in 86% of the forest area of the island. Turtles have their
nesting homes in the form of the glistering white beaches.

The major part
of the residence of the island is at Port Blair. Before the existence
